Overview

The Worksite Standards for Sustainable Development have been developed as one of the useful and practical methods of ensuring Sustainable Development is understood and practised throughout the Water Corporation. They enable the recognition of prior learning and further achievement in both knowledge acquisition and application in the workplace.

The National Competency Standards are part of a Australia's nationally training framework. Attainment of competency in one or more of these units as assessed by an accredited assessor, is nationally recognised and may contribute to further qualifications. The units of competency are linked to sub-elements and evidence guide which are useful in guiding learning and workplace practices.

Worksite Standards for Sustainable Development

Knowledge

  • Defines sustainable development

  • Lists core principles which underpin sustainable development

  • Draws and describes the integration model of sustainable development

  • Describes the Water Corporation's sustainable development policy

  • Describes application of the Water Corporation's sustainable development policy to own workplace area

  • Discusses advantages for self, Water Corporation, its customers and business partners, the wider community and the environment in the use of sustainable development principles and practices

  • Discusses issues relating to sustainable development both from both a general and work-related perspectives

  • Lists and describes key assessment, project management, peer coaching and other tools related to own work practices in the application of sustainable development principles and goals 

Application

  • Utilizes and adapts appropriate tools for conducting sustainable development worksite review, planning, and implementation

  • Demonstrates application of sustainable development policies, principles and procedures within the scope of own worksite and own practices

  • Demonstrates worksite review procedures relating to sustainable development

  • Outlines sustainable development plan based on worksite review procedures

  • Implements sustainable development plans in a timely manner

  • Demonstrates use of key documentation, data collection and other recording methods to enable transparency and feedback for self and others

  • Actively participates in regular peer and line management supervision and coaching to progress work practices and self development related to sustainable development
