Construct™ Author's built-in Assessment Manager handles the generation, serialization, saving and editing of assessments. It combines different types of questions, such as Multiple Choice, True or False and Fill in the Blanks, into one assessment. Assessments can be sequenced per test, and weightings may be applied for marking purposes. Random questions may be called from the test bank in order to publish different tests for each learner’s assessment session. Assessment feedback can be set to display immediate results to each learner as well as for assessment report compilation and accreditation purposes to track to a SCORM-compliant LMS, such as Construct™ LMS or the Construct™ Assessment Engine.

Assessments can be used for a variety of purposes, but essentially address the following:

  • to certify someone as having completed a section of learning;

  • to improve the learning experience of the learner;

  • to assess competency.

Summative assessments are comprehensive assessments that evaluate a learner on an entire module or unit, and are used as a means of providing a unit-level assessment percentage or set of marks.

A formative assessment, on the other hand, is a shorter assessment that provides instant feedback to learners while they are working through the assessment of activity, thereby providing the learner with the opportunity to learn from his mistakes. Marks may or may not be assigned for a formative assessment.

Depending on your requirements, you will use one or the other at various point in your course. It is useful to have formulated your assessment purpose and design before using the Assessment Manager.

An assessment can consist of many different questions. These questions may be True or False, Multiple Choice or Fill in the Blanks.
